Selected Topics on Multimedia Tele-immersive Environments

Fall 2005

Seminar Description: This seminar on multimedia tele-immersive environments aims to present a comprehensive view of tele-immersive applications and system/networking issues that are very much related to accomplishing high-quality collaborative environments. In this class, we will take the top-down approach starting with papers that discuss well-known 3D tele-immersive applications using virtual reality. We will then move on to 3D video tele-immersive environments and read/discuss papers on multi-camera 3D video content, multimedia streaming for 3D content, compression for real-time communication, 3D video reconstruction, TCP role in tele-immersion, synchronization issues, and others.
